Authentic Hand Built Log Cabin Kits -
These log cabin kits are built at The Museum of the American West (MAW) in Lander, Wyoming. The museum is a working history museum with demonstrations relating to the American West.
The logs come from the Wind River Mountains and are beetle killed standing dead trees. They are skip peeled, revealing the unique designs and patterns of the bark boring pine beetle. Only full round hand notched logs are used. Once assembled the logs are numbered and taken apart for shipment to your location. Chinking is added between the logs to give the finished cabin a very unique look. These are authentic log cabins, not luxury log homes. They are rustic well built pieces of Western American art.
Items included: Logs for walls, ridge logs & purlins, rough sawn roof / ceiling planking, all fasteners, and instructions.
Optional items: Interior cabinets, log bed, log furniture, deck chairs, shelves, mantels, and sleeping lofts. Contact us for details.
There are several design and construction choices for you to make. Corners can either be beaver cut or squared cut. (see pictures) Do you want our crew to re-assemble at your location? Who will do the chinking- which is time consuming but easy to learn. What sort of roofing material will be installed- metal, wood or asphalt shingles? Will there be electricity and water installed? What type foundation or column support will there be? When and where do you want it delivered? Contact us for details and assistance.
Prices and payments: These complete rustic cabin kits are priced according to size and design. For example: A 22' x 28' cabin with sleeping loft, stairs, spindle hand rail and insulated structural panel roof is approximately $30,000. A 25% deposit is required at the time of order, another 25% at when 1/2 complete and total prior to shipping. Please contact us to see when your authentic log cabin kit will be produced.
